About the Office of the Chief Sergeant at Arms
The Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms Department contains the Chief Sergeants office and three divisions. The divisions consist of Administrative Services, Security and Special Services. The department currently employs 50 employees that includes executive and management staff, support personnel, Security officers and Special Services staff.
Administrative Services provides the necessary support services the Sergeant-at-Arms employees require and is managed by the Deputy Chief Sergeant-at-Arms. It consists of background investigation, training and Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) compliance. Additional services provided to the Assembly membership and staff includes Capitol identification cards, office keys and committee room scheduling.
The Security Department serves as the central base of operations for the Communications (Dispatch) Center and the Assistant Sergeants at Arms. The Security Department works closely with the California Highway Patrol, Governor's Protective Detail, other outside law enforcement agencies and the Senate Sergeant at Arms.
The Special Services Department serves as the Assembly’s information center. This office provides ground transportation for members both locally and out of town, assists with Assembly Sessions, committees, as well as performs many legislative errands. The Assembly membership relies on the services of this office seven days a week, including most evenings and holidays.
