Security Training

In order to remain compliant with Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) the Security Division trains throughout the calendar year. Prior to becoming a sworn peace officer, all candidates must pass the 832 Penal Code (PC) training as mandated by the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) division. All applicants who complete the 832 PC training must also attend a POST certified Basic Specialized Investigators Core Course (BSI) which includes 450 hours of training in the following subjects:
 

  • Classification of Crimes
  • Narcotics
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Report Writing
  • Ethics
  • Search Warrants
  • Firearms
  • Self-Defense
  • Laws of Arrest
  • Use of Force

In accordance with California Penal Code 830.36 (A) PC, the Assembly Sergeant-at Arms requires each applicant to become a sworn Peace Officer upon successful graduation from the academy training program. Additionally, all personnel receive advanced training in VIP and Dignitary Protection. This special additional training consists of the following subjects:
 

  • Crowd and Perimeter Control
  • Tactical/Evasive/Defense Driving
  • Ethical Consideration for Dignitaries
  • Interview and Interrogation
  • Work Place Violence
  • VIP Protocol
  • Explosive Ordinance Training and Counter Measures
  • Principles of Protection
  • Active Shooter Training
