About the Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms Department

The Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms Department is comprised of the Protective Services Division and the Special Services Division.  The Department employs 50 personnel including command staff, support personnel, peace officers, and special services staff.

The Protective Services Division provides protective services for Members of the Assembly, their Capitol and district offices and works closely with the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, California Highway Patrol, Governor's  Protective Detail, and other law enforcement agencies.

The Special Services Division provides logistics support to Assembly Members, official ground transportation within the Capitol region, and during official out of town legislative business.  Special Services staff assist with Assembly session and committee setup, and perform other legislative tasks as needed. The Assembly membership relies on the services of this office seven days a week, and on most evenings and holidays.
