Department Training
The Security Services Division trains throughout the calendar year. All Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms' are sworn peace officers and have completed a police academy approved by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) which includes training in the following subjects:
- Classification of Crimes
- Narcotics
- Cultural Diversity
- Report Writing
- Ethics
- Search Warrants
- Firearms
- Self-Defense
- Laws of Arrest
- Use of Force
Additionally, they receive advanced training in VIP and Dignitary Protection. This special additional training consists of the following subjects:
- Crowd and Perimeter Control
- Tactical/Evasive/Defense Driving
- Ethical Consideration for Dignitaries
- Interview and Interrogation
- Work Place Violence
- VIP Protocol
- Explosive Ordinance Training and Counter Measures
- Principles of Protection
- Active Shooter Training
