Organization

The Assembly Sergeant-at-Arms Department contains the Chief Sergeants office and three divisions. The divisions consist of Administrative Services, Security and Special Services. The department currently employs 50 employees that includes executive and management staff, support personnel, Security officers and Special Services staff.

Office of the Chief Sergeant-at-Arms

The executive office consists of the Chief Sergeant-at-Arms and the Senior Assistant. The Sergeant-at-Arms Department is administered through the Chief Sergeant's Office and is the liaison between the Department and the Assembly Membership. Chief Sergeant-at-Arms Ronald E. Pane has the overall responsibility for providing leadership, fiscal accountability and long range planning for the department

Administrative Services

Administrative Services provides the necessary support services the Sergeant-at-Arms employees require and is managed by the Assistant Chief Sergeant-at-Arms. It consists of background investigation, training and Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) compliance. Additional services provided to the Assembly membership and staff includes Capitol identification cards, office keys and committee room scheduling.

Security

The Security Division's staff are sworn peace officers (P.C. 830.36a) and provide security for the Assembly Members, staff and public. This service includes Legislative session, committee hearings and is a primary responder in times of crisis (i.e. fire, civil disturbance and medical emergencies).

Special Services

Special Services Division's responsibilities cover a wide range of duties including but not limited to: Member transportation, support services for session and committee hearings, assisting as first responders during emergencies, mail inspection and material distribution. The dispatch center acts as the main coordinator for information and operates on extended hours.
