Committee Hearings

Committee hearings or meetings are assigned to Assembly Committee rooms in the State Capitol or elsewhere in the state. There are Standing, Sub-Committees, Select, and Joint Committees. Committees meet weekly or bi-weekly on assigned days and times or upon call of the Chair.

The Assembly Sergeants are strategically positioned in Committee Hearings to maintain order and assist Committee Chairpersons in a variety of duties. They ensure the safety and security of the Committee members and the public attending the hearing. Legislative hearings are held in the State Capitol and various locations throughout the State of California. The Security Division Sergeants are empowered to arrest any subpoenaed witness who neglects or refuses to attend a Committee hearing. In addition to keeping order and decorum during any Legislative Committee hearing, Sergeants ensure that Committee procedures are followed.
